VP Jejomar Binay is the New HUDCC Chief

Vice President Jejomar C. Binay is now the new Chairman of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC). He formally took his oath of office on 19 July 2010.

The Vice President has already instructed the heads of the attached agencies under HUDCC to work together to ensure that President Benigno S. Aquino III’s goal of providing decent and affordable homes, especially to poor Filipinos, would be realized.

He also underscored that in line with the Aquino Administration’s anti-corruption policy, he will not tolerate corruption in agencies under his watch as he expects transparency in all transactions. .

The HUDCC is the highest policy-making body for housing and is tasked to coordinate the activities of the government housing agencies and to make certain that the National Shelter Program is accomplished.

As the Chairman of HUDCC, Vice President Binay will lead the agency in formulating the national objectives for housing and urban development. He will also sit as Chairman of the Board of the Key Shelter Agencies and exercise supervision over the operations of the Home Guaranty Corporation (HGC), the Home Development Mutual Fund (HDMF) or more popularly known as the Pag-IBIG Fund, National Housing Authority (NHA), the Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board (HLURB), the National Home Mortgage Finance Corporation (NHMFC) and its subsidiary, the Social Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC).

Prior to his election to the second highest position in the country, Vice President Binay held various positions in government such as the Chair of the Metro Manila Development Authority (1990-1992; 1998-2001) and Mayor of the City of Makati (1986-1998; 2001-2010).
